About JiVitA

JiVitA is a maternal and child health and nutrition research project of Johns Hopkins University in Bangladesh (JHUB), operating in Gaibandha District with its Project Headquarters (PHQ) in Rangpur City. The organization is registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh, working to improve the health and nutritional status of women and children through evidence-based research and interventions.


Position Overview

The Nutrition Officer will plan, organize, and implement field- and laboratory-related activities under established research protocols. The role supports intervention and observational studies aimed at enhancing the health and nutritional well-being of adolescents and women of reproductive age.


Key Responsibilities

Project Implementation & Management

  • Lead biospecimen management, including collection, processing, limited field analysis, and sample storage.

  • Support daily operations of nutrition-focused sub-studies, ensuring smooth logistics and supply management.

  • Contribute to the preparation of the Manual of Operations (MOO) and supervise lab work to maintain strict quality standards.

  • Manage procurement and inventory of reagents and consumables; track usage and prepare reports.

  • Oversee transfer and shipment of biological samples, ensuring proper cold chain maintenance.

  • Collaborate closely with investigators from JHU, local partners, and JiVitA field and data teams.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and minor troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

  • Maintain records and ensure timely execution of maintenance plans.

Scientific Analysis & Research

  • Assist in biochemical data analysis and interpretation of nutritional indicators.

  • Support the development of knowledge on the interactions between nutrition, biochemistry, and human physiology.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise laboratory technicians and coordinate timely field sample collection.

  • Facilitate regular meetings with collaborators and ensure project deliverables are met on schedule.


Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry, Nutrition, Food Science, or related life sciences (with focus on human physiology and biochemistry).

  • Alternatively, a B.Sc. degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years in public health research, clinical trials, or laboratory work.

  • Strong understanding of biohazards, bioethics, biosecurity, and biosafety standards.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Knowledge of cold chain management, shipment procedures, and documentation.

  • Excellent communication skills in English.

  • Prior publications in peer-reviewed journals will be an added advantage.


Employment Details

  • Type: Contractual (1-year, renewable based on performance and funding)

  • Workplace: On-site, Rangpur

  • Salary: BDT 80,000 (Negotiable based on experience and expertise)
